Workshop Objectives:
At the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to:
- Effectively use the Diagnostic Decoding Surveys and the Grouping Matrix to diagnose decoding weaknesses and identify appropriate instruction
- Understand the components of phonics and decoding and why students struggle
- Understand why students often get stuck at a 3rd grade reading level and how decoding instruction can allow them to quickly make significant gains
- Understand the “keys” to providing effective decoding (or word-level) instruction to students in upper-elementary, middle-school and high school
- Map how these phonics concepts are taught in Phonics Blitz and Phonics Boost
- Plan phonics instruction using effective strategies and manipulatives
