2-Day Phonics Suite Comprehensive Training
Teacher background knowledge is a key component to successful reading intervention that turns struggling readers into really great readers! Our professional development workshops provide the background knowledge in phonics and phonemic awareness needed to successfully diagnose, group, and teach struggling readers using Phonics Suite materials. The Phonics Suite workshop is for educators in grades 2-12 who have some knowledge of phonics but little or no experience teaching phonics to struggling readers.
Workshop Objectives:
At the end of the Phonics Suite Workshop, attendees will be able to:
- Define and identify data driven instruction
- Understand the importance of Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) as a screening tool
- Facilitate the use of the Diagnostic Decoding Surveys and the Grouping Matrix to diagnose reading weaknesses and identify appropriate instruction
- Understand the components of reading, reading instruction, and why students struggle
- Understand phonics, including basic phonics principles and patterns
- Understand phonemic awareness (including phoneme articulation) and how to teach it
- Map how these phonics concepts are taught in Phonics Blitz and Phonics Boost
- Plan phonics instruction using effective strategies and manipulatives
